Finishing the Year Strong

In the final weeks of the school year, it's natural for students to want to relax and get ready for summer.  KOLD's Valerie Cavazos speaks to Catalina Foothills High School counselor Michael Bryan on what parents can do to help their children stay focused and finish the year strong. "We want the expectation set by parents is that students finish strong right up until the last period of the last day," says Mr. Bryan.

Foothills Engineering Grad Selected as Convocation Speaker

Graduate Nik Gruber

Foothills grad and Flinn Scholar Nik Gruber '20 is solving the formula for success.  He’s been selected as this year’s chemical engineering outstanding senior by the University of Arizona. In addition, he was asked to be the speaker at the Spring 2024 Convocation for the Department of Chemical & Environmental Engineering.  After graduation, Nik will stay at the University of Arizona to earn his Master's Degree in chemical engineering. Keep up the good work, Nik!

OUTSTANDING ACHIEVEMENTS

  • Manzanita's Maura Baker, gifted specialist, was honored with the Tucson Values Teachers' (TVT) Excellence Award for May.

  • Fifty-nine CFHS students were recently inducted into the National Honor Society (NHS) in recognition of their outstanding academic achievement.

  • Three CFHS students have been selected to participate in the KEYS Research Internship: Matthew Boylan, Logan Curley, and Brandon Mokhtarian.

  • CFHS students Scarlet Perkins, Robbie Ponzo, and Sam Ponzo competed at the state level and based on their performance, were invited to compete at the Junior Olympics.

  • CFHS student Ellen Kim placed first at the Congressional Art Show held at the offices of Juan Ciscomani in Tucson.

  • NCAA National Signing Day 2024. Thirteen CFHS student athletes signed letter of intent.

  • CFHS senior Lance Jacobson won Best Actor at the Monte Awards.

  • CFHS Juniors Zev Greenberg, Aaron Handler, and Kyle Senkerik will represent CFHS at Boys State 2024.

  • CFHS Advanced Theatre students at the Southern Arizona Festival of Theatre took home 14 Superiors and 1 Excellent in Acting and Musical Theatre Performance categories, 1 Superior in Short Film, 1 Excellent in Playwriting, and 1 Excellent in Scenic Design.

  • CFHS seniors Marcos Escudero, Julia Jonas, Anderson Peters, and juniors Fox Foster and Siena Mayfield participated as members of the Arizona All-State Choir.

  • The CFHS yearbook from last year, Falcon 2023 Volume 31, was selected once again to be featured four times in the Varsity Yearbook's Portfolio edition.

  • Orange Grove boys and girls track and field team won the league championship.

  • Orange Grove's 8th grade volleyball team won the division championship.

  • Orange Grove's 7th grade baseball team won the league championship.

OPEN ENROLLMENT


Open enrollment is a state law that allows students to attend schools outside of their resident school if the receiving school has the capacity to accept them. CFSD residents who wish to attend a school other than their home area school must apply under the open enrollment program as well as non-resident families.
